Why should we invest so much of our time and efforts in this art
form we call animation? Good question, my friends. Well, here’s our
alternative to animation: the lowest, most base of pathetic, whimpering
Hollywood executives throwing up their hands and wantonly
admitting they’ve run out of “original” ideas, by slinging in our
general direction…
the so-called “reality show.”
Here’s the problem I have with reality shows. When I switch on
the TV, go to a movie, or even crack open a book, the last thing I
expect — much less actually want — is reality. If I wanted reality,
I’d switch off the TV, walk outside, and experience raw, unbridled,
unedited, truly unscripted reality — all for the price of free.
I don’t need an overpaid executive directly or indirectly slipping
money from my pocket to fund payment on his latest convertible.
Certainly not from funds garnered via reality TV.

The Focal Easy Guide to Macromedia Flash 8
Flash is used for the creation of graphics, animation and media that users can
interact with, such as interfaces, rich media web pages, games, real-time chat
applications, interactive shopping systems and video conferencing. Although
the program is primarily associated with creating content for the Internet, Flash
is also used to create stand-alone CD-ROMS and presentations, animation for
TV, content for PDAs, interactive television, kiosks and mobile phones.

Foundation Flash CS3 for Designers
In many respects, Flash CS3 completes the process started by Macromedia, now Adobe, with
the release of Flash 8. That release was a “designer” release, meaning there were lots of
goodies for the creatives and a few for the coders. This iteration of the application is the
“developer” release. The coders are dancing in the streets, and the creatives are wondering
what the hell happened.

Flash CS3 FOR Dummies
We start by presenting an overview of the Flash universe and then continue
in the general order that you would use to create a Flash movie. More basic
material is at the beginning of the book, and more advanced material (but not
too advanced!) comes later.
To be more specific, this book is divided into seven parts (to represent the
seven states of consciousness — okay, we don’t have to get too cosmic here).
Each part contains two or more chapters that relate to that part. Each chapter
thoroughly covers one topic so that you don’t have to go searching all
over creation to get the information you need.

From After Effects to Flash Poetry in Motion Graphics
“We are going to start our journey through After Effects and Flash by launching a search
for dragons. There is a historical myth that assumes English mapmakers in the 1500s, not
knowing what lay in the Arctic, would add the legend ‘Here be dragons’ to their maps. We
say ‘myth’ because the only known reference to that phrase is on the Lenox Globe, which
can be found in the New York Public Library. Still, the phrase has stuck and makes for a
rather great jumping-off point for our exploration of the unknown.

The Essential Guide to Flex 3
Before you can appreciate the benefits of Flex, you need a general understanding of the
history of the Internet up to this point. I say historical because the various technologies we
see today came about at various points in the timeline of the Internet’s evolution. As I just
stated in the short introduction to this chapter, it is important to understand this evolution
in order to see where Flex fits.

Foundation Flex for Developers Data Driven Applications with PHP ASPNET ColdFusion and LCDS
The book is purposely simple so you can get the basic concepts right. Each chapter covers a
small topic, demonstrating, with some basic examples, how you might achieve specific tasks
using Flex. It’s not until the second part of the book that we put these concepts together to create
four complete applications.
This book started as a book about Flex 2. During the writing process, Adobe announced the
release of Flex 3, so I changed the focus halfway through. It was also interrupted by the birth of
my son in June 2007, so it’s been a long road.

Foundation Flash Cartoon Animation
Flash is quickly becoming one of the most popular tools for character animation.
Originally a web-based creation and delivery solution, Flash has extended its reach
and is now being used by amateur and professional animators alike in practically
every medium. From major Hollywood TV productions (Foster’s Home for Imaginary
Friends, El Tigre, and Slacker Cats to name just a few) to one-man bands (Jennifer
Shiman’s 30-Second Bunnies series at http://www.angryalien.com/ or Adam Phillips’s
Brackenwood movies http://www.brackenwood.net/), Flash is becoming the tool of
choice for 2-D animators and producers.

ActionScript 30 Bible
ActionScript 3.0 is the third major incarnation of the ActionScript language. Previously, ActionScript
was used primarily to develop Flash content. Now ActionScript is being applied in an increasing
variety of contexts, and it is a mature technology in its own right. ActionScript 3.0 Bible was written
with this in mind, while additional offerings from Wiley provide focused training for the tools that
use ActionScript 3.0.
